Day 1

Goedendag from the Netherlands!

After many months of planning, we are off on our journey! We’ve made it across the Atlantic and are much closer to Africa. It was a quick flight to Minneapolis and then a seven and a half hour stretch to Amsterdam.

We are waiting at the airport on our four-hour layover in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, we are having some computer problems and there is a chance that we may be unable to blog during our travels, but this is High Tech High and we are working diligently to solve the problem!

We have another eight hour flight and then we arrive in Kilimanjaro around 7 P.M.  If all goes well, we are off to Arusha! Tomorrow morning, we will meet and interview Titus, the lead veterinarian of Tanzania’s national parks.  We will also pass along supplies we brought from San Diego to support his efforts. The Euro has not been friendly to our US Dollar, but the Tanzanian Shilling should be.

During our layover time, we want to bring you up to date on our appearance in the Invitrogen booth at the 2008 BIO conference.  We gave presentations for two days.  We spoke with numerous attendees about High Tech High in general, as well as providing them with in-depth information on the Bushmeat trade, our DNA barcode research, and our upcoming African expedition.

Thanks for your support if you here because of BIO!
